Refresh and Rejuvenate
Your Eyes

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that aims to rejuvenate the upper and/or lower eyelids by removing or repositioning excess skin, muscle, and fat. Dr. DeRosa customizes each treatment to enhance your eye contours while maintaining facial harmony and balance. Whether you want to correct sagging lids that make you look tired or reduce puffiness beneath your eyes, eyelid surgery restores a more youthful, alert, and balanced appearance, so your outer expression matches how vibrant you feel inside.

Do I Need Eyelid Surgery?

You may consider eyelid surgery if the area around your eyes no longer reflects how energized or youthful you feel. Dr. DeRosa can help determine whether blepharoplasty is right for you based on your goals and anatomy. You may be a good candidate if:

  • You notice sagging or drooping upper eyelids that make you look tired or older
  • You have puffiness or under-eye bags that don’t improve with sleep or skincare
  • You have hooded lids that interfere with eye makeup or vision
  • You see loose, crepey skin around your eyes that affects your confidence
  • You want to achieve a more refreshed, naturally youthful look

What Are the Benefits of Eyelid Surgery?

  • Restores a brighter, more youthful appearance to the eyes
  • Smooths away puffiness, sagging skin, and under-eye bags
  • Helps makeup apply more evenly and naturally
  • Enhances the definition of the upper and lower eyelids
  • Can improve peripheral vision when excess skin obstructs sight
  • Complements other facial rejuvenation procedures, such as a brow lift or facelift

How is Eyelid Surgery Performed?

Your eyelid surgery begins with a thorough consultation at DeRosa Center, where Dr. DeRosa evaluates your eyelid anatomy, skin elasticity, and muscle tone to design a personalized surgical plan. She’ll determine whether an upper, lower, or combined blepharoplasty best suits your goals. All procedures are performed in our private, QUAD A-certified surgical suite.

Upper Blepharoplasty

For an upper eyelid lift, Dr. DeRosa carefully marks the natural crease of your eyelid to plan the incision. Through this fine incision, she removes redundant skin, trims a small segment of the orbicularis oculi muscle if necessary, and repositions or conservatively removes excess orbital fat to eliminate heaviness or drooping. The incision is closed with tiny sutures that dissolve or are removed within several days. This helps refresh your upper lids.

Lower Blepharoplasty

For a lower eyelid lift, Dr. DeRosa targets puffiness and under-eye bags caused by protruding fat pads and skin laxity. Depending on your anatomy, she may use one of two approaches: a subciliary incision just below the lash line or a transconjunctival incision placed inside the lower eyelid for no visible scar. Through this access point, excess orbital fat is repositioned to smooth hollow areas, while delicate skin tightening refines the lid-cheek junction.

Eyelid Surgery FAQs:

How Long Does Eyelid Surgery Take?

Eyelid surgery is typically an outpatient procedure that takes about one to two hours, depending on whether you’re having upper, lower, or both eyelids treated. You’ll return home the same day after a brief observation period with detailed post-care instructions.

What is Recovery Like After Eyelid Surgery?

You can expect mild swelling, bruising, and tightness for the first several days after surgery. Most patients feel comfortable resuming normal daily activities within 7 to 10 days, though it may take a few weeks for all swelling to fully resolve. Dr. DeRosa recommends keeping your head elevated, using cool compresses, and avoiding strenuous exercise during the early recovery period. Makeup can usually be worn again once healing is complete.

Will There Be Visible Scars?

Dr. DeRosa takes great care to place incisions along your eyelid creases or inside the lower eyelid, where they are virtually invisible once the incision has healed. Her meticulous technique enables most patients to achieve natural-looking results without noticeable scarring. As your skin heals, the scars continue to fade over time and become barely perceptible.

When Will I See Results From Eyelid Surgery?

You’ll notice improvement as soon as the initial swelling subsides, usually within two weeks. However, your final, refined results emerge over several months as your tissues fully settle. The eyes appear brighter and more youthful, with results that often last for many years.
