RHINOPLASTY

Rhinoplasty is a surgery that changes the external appearance of the nose and often improves nasal breathing.

Considering a Nose Job?

The aesthetic and structural changes that can be achieved through rhinoplasty can be life-changing.

Whether you have always been sensitive about the size or shape of your nose or have difficulty breathing, Dr. DeRosa can help.

BEFORE & AFTER

KNOW YOUR SURGEON.

Jaimie DeRosa is a double-board certified Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon in Boston.

Dr. DeRosa specializes in noses and has performed thousands of rhinoplasty procedures in her career. She understands that appearance and function are equally important when considering and performing rhinoplasty. You want your nose to be more proportional and have a nicer shape, but you also want to be able to breathe without obstruction.

Commonly Asked Questions:

What Can Rhinoplasty Do For Me Aesthetically?
Rhinoplasty, more casually called a “nose job”, can help reshape the nose. It can remove a bump, straighten the bridge of the nose, make the tip less bulbous, or solve a variety of other aesthetic problems. In general, the nose should not be the focus of the face. A good rhinoplasty can help all the elements of the face work in harmony.
Are There Risks Associated With Facial Plastic Surgery?
Yes. There are inherent risks with any surgical procedure, including bleeding and postoperative infection. As a double-board certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. DeRosa is acutely aware of these risks, and her experience and training help to minimize them. There are multiple potential complications that may occur during or after rhinoplasty, and these risks should be discussed with your surgeon.

After rhinoplasty, there is a risk that one’s breathing may be worsened after surgery, as the nose plays a vital role in breathing. Dr. DeRosa understands how to manage both the nasal airway and the external appearance will likely be able to reduce this risk significantly. Another risk with rhinoplasty surgery is damage to the nasal skin, which can be devastating and irreversible. Since the nose will continue to heal months, years, and decades after surgery, some problems may not be recognized or noticed right away. Dr. DeRosa believes that follow-up after surgery is very important to help try to prevent or reduce such problems. She also has extensive experience correcting such problems when patients have had previous nasal surgery/rhinoplasty. Although there are risks associated with rhinoplasty, undergoing surgery with a physician who is well qualified and experienced in rhinoplasty can help to reduce such problems.

What Different Ways Can Rhinoplasty Be Performed, and Where Will My Stitches Be?
There are many different techniques that can be used to change the external appearance of the nose (i.e. rhinoplasty). One may hear of different methods such as external/open, endonasal/closed, etcetera, all of which describes an approach for rhinoplasty.

Which method is used is typically determined by the specific goals for surgery, the nasal anatomy, and the surgeon’s preference. In general, there will be incisions along the inside of the nostrils, and dissolvable sutures (stitches) are used, which do not need to be removed. When the nose is opened using an external approach, there will be a scar along the columella (the area of the nose that touches the upper lip in the midline). Often there are stitches at this site that need to be removed typically within the following week. Most patients after rhinoplasty do wear an external cast on the nose for approximately one week.

Why is Dr. DeRosa my Best Option for Rhinoplasty in Boston?
You want a surgeon who specializes in noses, not a surgeon who does breast augmentation or liposuction and also happens to offer rhinoplasty. You want the focus that Dr. DeRosa has. She knows what to avoid to reduce the need for additional surgery. To put it simply, you want the sheer amount of hours in the OR performing rhinoplasty that Dr. DeRosa has.

You want your rhinoplasty to make your nose look great, and you want to breathe well – Dr. DeRosa has focused her career on those two things.

“I cannot say enough great things about the whole process. Dr. DeRosa herself called me the next say to check on me and make sure I was doing well…If you are someone who is unhappy with their nose, go see…no RUN to see Dr. DeRosa. She is an expert in this area and she is extremely skilled in her craft. My results are INCREDIBLE…. For the first time in my life I am confident and LOVE my nose!”
